If you are working up to selling your home, you might be focusing primarily on cleaning and upgrading the interior of your home. One area you shouldn't forget is the exterior surroundings of your home. This is the first thing that potential buyers will see, so be sure to take advice from your realtor when updating. Here are four quick fixes that can up your home's curb appeal for selling.

1. Potted Flowers and Plants

If you don't have the time or money for a landscaping overhaul, you can at least spruce up your walkway. Get rid of old or dying potted plants and replace them with fresh greenery. This will make your home seem more inviting and well maintained. Even if these plants only live through the time needed to show your home, they will serve their purpose in making your entryway look nicer.

2. Update Your Driveway

Your driveway and walkway up to your home may be the first things potential buyers see. If your driveway is falling apart, this can make your home look shabby from the street. You might not need to invest in an entire driveway overhaul or paving project. Sometimes filling cracks or adding a layer of paint or sealant can be enough to freshen up the look of your driveway.

3. Laying Down Mulch

If you have a large yard space that is visible from the street, you might be in trouble if this isn't maintained or is littered with patches of dying grass. It can take time to regrow an entire yard, so a faster, cheaper option is to lay down mulch instead. The rich, brown coloring will make your yard look inviting, and is easy to put on top of dirt or sparse grasses for an immediate upgrade.

4. Fix that Fence

Whether you have a gate around your front yard or fencing separating the backyard, if this is rundown or weathered, it can affect the overall look of your home. This might be as simple as a fresh coat of varnish or paint. If your fencing that is visible from the street has seen better days, it might be a good idea to invest in patching this or re-fencing your space.

Don't have potential buyers keep on driving when they come to look at your home. If you can up your curb appeal, you can get more people in the door to see all of the great things your home has to offer. Fixing up the exterior areas of your home doesn't need to be expensive and can make a huge difference when it comes to selling your home.
