Do you own your own home? Do you need to sell it as quickly as possible so that you can move elsewhere? Whether you're about to accept a new job or you need to move for other reasons, selling a house quickly can be important for many people. You could probably sell your home almost instantly if you listed it at way less than market value, but you probably don't want to do that. If you want to be able to get as much as possible for your home, here are a few hints:

Clear out the house: Right now, your house is probably filled with furniture and other belongings. Before your realtor comes over to see the house and take the listing pictures, get as much of your stuff out of the house as possible. If this means renting a storage unit or having a garage sale, then do so. The camera can sometimes make even the cleanest house look cluttered, potentially distracting and deterring potential buyers. Buyers also want to be able to imagine their own belongings in a new home. But it may be hard for them to imagine their grandfather clock standing in one room if that spot is taken up by your collection of knick-knacks.

Do minor landscaping: The outside of your home is obviously the first thing that everyone will see when they drive up. If your lawn is choked with weeds, hasn't been mowed, or has obviously neglected plants, a potential buyer may lose interest in your home. Having a neglected exterior can be taken as a sign that the interior has also been neglected. Conversely, the more appealing your house is in your listing's photos, the more people who are going to be considering putting an offer on your home.

Paint a little: Depending on the state of your home, you should consider at least painting the trim and one or two interior rooms. Just as with the landscaping, neglecting to ever repaint can be taken as a sign that there may be something else wrong with the house. A fresh coat of paint in strategic locations can give a much better impression, giving your home the appearance of being newer and better cared for than it might otherwise seem. If you still have outdated colors somewhere, such as avocado green or harvest gold, it can be especially important to cover these spots with paint in a more modern color.
